When Should You Replace Your Lexus Tires?

Replace your tires when the tread reaches 2/32 of an inch, when damage can't be repaired, or when they get old. Many drivers start shopping at 4/32 of an inch because wet-road grip drops quickly after that.

•     Penny test: Put a penny upside down in the tread. If you can see the top of Lincoln's head, you're at 2/32", which is Georgia's legal minimum. Replace your tires now.

•     Quarter test: If you can see the top of Washington's head, you're near 4/32". Plan your replacement before the next big rainstorm.

•     Wear bars: When the tread is even with the small raised bars in the grooves, the tire is worn out.

•     Other warning signs: Sidewall cracks or bulges, uneven wear, a new vibration, more road noise, or a tire pressure light that keeps coming back.

•     Tire age: Have tires inspected closely once they're six years old, even if the tread looks good.

Choosing the Right Tires for Your Lexus

Your Lexus tire size is on the placard inside the driver's door jamb. A size like 235/60R18 103V shows the width, sidewall height, wheel size, load index and speed rating. New tires should match or exceed the load index and speed rating of your originals.

•     Original Equipment (OE) tires are chosen by Lexus engineers for your model's ride comfort, quietness and handling. Choosing OE tires keeps your Lexus feeling the way it did when it was new.

•     All-season touring tires are the best fit for most Macon drivers. They handle hot summers and heavy rain with a smooth, quiet ride.

•     Performance tires add grip and sharper steering for F SPORT models like the IS 500.

•     EV and hybrid tires for the RZ and Lexus hybrids are built for extra weight and low rolling resistance, which helps protect efficiency and range.

We'll show you options at different price points and explain the trade-offs so you can choose what fits your driving and budget.

Lexus Tire Care Schedule

•     Monthly: Check tire pressure when the tires are cold, using the PSI on your door jamb.

•     Every 5,000 miles: Rotate your tires. Rotation is part of every Lexus scheduled maintenance visit, and new Lexus owners get their first two visits through Lexus Complimentary Maintenance.

•     Every service visit: We measure your tread and check your sidewalls.

•     With new tires: Balance your tires and check your alignment. See rotation and alignment on our Lexus service menu.

•     After a hard pothole or curb hit: Have your alignment checked and your tires inspected.

Lexus Tire FAQs

How much do Lexus tires cost?

It depends on your model, tire size, brand and type. An ES uses very different tires than a GX or LX. Call (478) 238-9666 for a quote on your exact vehicle.

Does the Lexus warranty cover tires?

Tires are covered by the tire manufacturer's warranty against defects, not the Lexus new vehicle warranty, and many include a treadwear warranty. Tires bought at Butler Lexus also include road hazard coverage on eligible purchases.

How long do Lexus factory tires last?

Many factory all-season tires last 30,000 to 50,000 miles, depending on the tire, your Lexus and how you drive. Performance and EV tires often wear faster.

Should I replace all four tires at once?

It's often the best choice. Matching tires keep handling and braking balanced. If your Lexus has all-wheel drive, mismatched tread depths can strain the drivetrain, so replacing all four is usually recommended.

Can a tire be patched instead of replaced?

A puncture in the main tread area can usually be repaired with a proper plug-patch. Damage to the sidewall or shoulder means the tire should be replaced.

Do I need an alignment with new tires?

An alignment check is a smart idea. A misaligned Lexus wears tires unevenly and can pull to one side, which shortens the life of your new tires.

What should I do if my tire pressure light comes on?

Check all four tires with a gauge and fill them to the PSI on your door jamb. Cool Macon mornings often trigger the light. If it stays on or keeps coming back, stop by and we'll check for a leak or a sensor problem.
